Del was cared for at St Raphael’s Hospice before leaving us. His funeral on 18th September 2019 at North East Surrey Crematorium was attended by both Cheam Fields Bowlers where he played outdoors and Sutton Bowlers where he played indoors.

The Wake was held at Sutton Bowls Club and Theo approached both Lady’s and Men’s Captain of Cheam Fields and suggested arranging a Fun Bowls Night with a difference two days later at Cheam Fields. Both agreed and emails went out that evening. Forty-eight hours later over 30 people attended.
Some played and others watched, but all donated.

It was a fantastic response from the bowlers of Cheam Fields Bowls Club. With only “48 hours’ notice the club pulled together a Fun Bowls Night in memory of one of their own Del Stowe.

For the first time in the Club’s History Crown Bowls was played. You could say it was all a “Load of Bowls”. Bowls were everywhere, being hit, kicked away and Jacks and Bowls being knocked by other Bowls from different matches. Funky music being played with some good moves being made on the green by many players.  A type of Dodge Ball was being played as you walked on the green. You had to be aware of Bowls coming from all angles. Players that couldn’t attend also donated to the evening’s cause of St. Raphael’s Hospice, where Del and family were supported amazingly well.

Our Winner was New Bowler Stuart, another of our now many Tennis/Bowls members.
Two nice surprizes on the night, The Enterprize League donated the £135 raised from the season and Theo’s Magic Foundation donated a further £200, which made a fantastic grand total of £600.  A lot of members ended up having a Fish & Chip Super. A truly Fun Social Evening was had by both players and spectators. A Night to be very proud to be a member of Cheam Fields Bowls Club.
